BIO: Flavio Ferri began working with the Long Island Rough Riders in 2004 as the Youth Development Director. In 2006, Flavio took on the role of Assistant General Manager and Head Coach of the Rough Riders Men’s Team. He assumed his current role of VP/General Manager in October of 2006.
As a player, Flavio enjoyed a stellar college career in which he received several accolades including: three-time All Conference selection, three-time All District selection, three-time All Region honors, two- time Conference MVP, and two- time All American. In 1994 Flavio turned professional and moved to Mexico City to play with U.N.A.M Pumas, one of Mexico’s elite first division teams and returned to the United States in 1995 where he played for the San Antonio Pumas of the USISL. While with San Antonio Flavio led the nation in goals and points and was voted to the All-Star team where he earned game’s Most Valuable Player Award.
Flavio’s success as a player earned him a spot on the United States Under-23 National Team, and ultimately, he was drafted by the Tampa Bay Mutiny in 1996. Approximately halfway through the 1996 season Flavio played for the Long Island Rough Riders where he was a member of the team for the 1996 and 1997 seasons, reaching the National Semifinals each year. In 1998 Flavio concluded his career playing for the Staten Island Vipers in the A-League of the United Soccer Leagues.
In 1999, Flavio joined Globall Soccer Concepts where he helped develop one of the premier level soccer training organizations, training more than 70 travel soccer teams on Long Island. At Globall, Flavio helped manage a training staff over 30 instructors who primarily were recruited from oversees. Apart from designing curriculums for intramural based clinics to advanced travel team sessions, Flavio also trained and coached high level travel teams, including one of the best known boy’s teams in the East Meadow Soccer Club, the East Meadow Falcons.
In 2006, Flavio took over the coaching and management responsibilities of the Long Island Rough Riders professional men’s team that played in the 2nd division league in the United Soccer Leagues. During his professional coaching tenure with the Rough Riders, Flavio helped restructure the men’s soccer franchise while helping players with their professional careers, including but not limited to Ruben Diaz (Puerto Rico Islanders USL 1), Rob Fucci (Crystal Palace Baltimore USL 2nd Division), Christopher Megaloudis (Red Bulls, MLS) Michael Grella (Leeds United, England 2nd Division) and Paul Robson (Crystal Palace, England 2nd Division).
In the spring of 2005, Flavio completed his B.S. Business Administration specializing in Global Business from SUNY Old Westbury and in 2006 he became a Certified Arena Operator from US Indoor. Recently, Flavio obtained his national coaching licensed with NSCAA and the USSF and is scheduled to obtain his US Club Director of Coaching License in March of 2009.
Flavio resides in Bethpage with his wife Laura, son Lucas, and daughter Juliana.
